Large-Scale Exercises at ATIRAM Hotels in Barcelona under the HOTHREAT Project

As part of the HOTHREAT project, Safety Core was responsible for the preparation and implementation of two large-scale exercises carried out at ATIRAM hotels in Barcelona.
The exercises formed an important part of the practical validation of the solutions developed within the project and were designed to reflect real challenges that hotel facilities may face in crisis situations. Their purpose was not only to test response procedures, but also to assess staff cooperation, the effectiveness of communication, the organisation of activities, and the ability to operate under time pressure and in conditions of increased uncertainty.
Conducting the exercises in large hotel facilities operating in an international urban environment provided particularly valuable experience. Activities of this kind make it possible to confront project assumptions with the realities of the hospitality sector, where security must remain closely linked with business continuity, guest service, and the effective coordination of personnel.
The exercises in Barcelona also confirmed the importance of cooperation between security experts and hospitality professionals. By combining expert knowledge with operational practice, it was possible to generate observations and conclusions that support the development of more realistic and effective solutions aimed at increasing facility resilience.
These activities represent an important contribution to the objectives of the HOTHREAT project, which seeks to strengthen the preparedness of hotels and conference centres for contemporary threats, including CBRNe threats, through practical testing, evaluation, and improvement of procedures.
